Rwanda: The Ethics of Communications in Africa: Exploring the Role of Communications in Challenging Stereotypes and Promoting Social Change

May 23, 2023 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm UTC+3

Communications can play a critical role in shaping perceptions of the world and communities within it. Unfortunately, communications has often been used to reinforce harmful and one-dimensional stereotypes of Africa.
This workshop, titled, “The Ethics of Communications in Africa: Exploring the Role of Communications in Challenging Stereotypes and Promoting Social Change” will bring together various media professionals, nonprofit industry leaders, and more to explore how communications can be used as a tool for social change. In particular, it will uncover common ethical challenges presented in journalism and media coverage of Africa. This will be followed by practical techniques that can address these quandaries, while bringing in case studies to show how these techniques can be applied. Join the session to therefore uncover new and tangible ways to shape a more informed narrative of the African continent!
